While Africanized Honeybees (AHB) are documented in Arizona, there is limited data regarding their distribution in the higher elevations of Northern Arizona. San Francisco Peaks Apiary is launching a study to fill this gap.

Our goal is to capture and study feral swarms to determine:

1. Colony Health: We screen wild populations for American Foulbrood (AFB) and other diseases to protect the wider ecosystem.

2. Genetics & Temperament: We are identifying Africanized genetics in local populations and evaluating feral bee behavior.

3. Swarm Patterns: We are collecting data on swarm timing and locations specific to our unique high-altitude region.
